DESCRIPTION:Join the qathet Community Action Team and Cinema Politica qathet for a documentary film night and panel discussion at the Patricia Theatre on Wednesday\, February 25th\, at 7pm. By donation. \n\n\n\nAbout the film: Dope is Death (2020)\, a film by Mia Donovan. In 1973\, Dr. Mutulu Shakur\, along with fellow Black Panthers and the Young Lords\, combined community health with radical politics to create the first acupuncture detoxification program in America. This form of radical harm reduction was a revolutionary act toward the government programs that transfixed the lives of black and brown communities throughout the South Bronx. Dope is Death utilizes an abundant archive while giving us insight into how the acupuncture clinic rose to prominence and\, despite funding challenges\, still functions to this day. Some of those who benefited from the program became acupuncturists themselves. Dr. Mutulu’s legacy is cemented within this profound story of community healing and activism.

DESCRIPTION:Do you know about Artist Trading Cards? Whether you do or don’t\, we hope you’ll join us for ATC nights with host Harvey Chometsky. \n\n\n\nIn short\, Artist Trading Cards are self-made unique works or small series\, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer\, exchanged and collected by the people who participate in this collaborative event. There are only 2 “rules”: the cards must be 2.5″x3.5″ (the same as modern hockey cards or baseball cards)\, and they are only to be traded\, not sold. \n\n\n\nMake them ahead of time\, or make them on the spot. We’ll bring some blanks and other art supplies. \n\n\n\nAnd this is a family-friendly event!
