Celebrate summer on Texada Island at the annual Sandcastle Weekend, taking place July 11–12 in Gillies Bay. This family-friendly community festival is packed with activities including a lively parade, bed races, a Show & Shine, skimboarding, local vendors, food, a Legion beer garden, children’s activities, a lip-sync contest, and an evening laser light show. Most activities are open to everyone, with prizes and plenty of opportunities to join the fun.
Sunday begins with a sunrise service and pancake breakfast before the weekend’s signature Sand Sculpture Competition takes over Gillies Bay Beach. Teams of all ages can compete for cash prizes, while visitors cast their votes in the People’s Choice judging. The festivities continue with a dog show, more vendors and food, and conclude with the awards presentation. It’s a weekend filled with creativity, community spirit, and seaside fun for all ages.
