Build confidence speaking Spanish at Let’s Speak Spanish, a welcoming weekly conversation group at El Centro.

Led by native Spanish speaker Miriam, this five-week series is designed to help participants practice and improve their Spanish in a relaxed, supportive environment. Each session includes guided conversation topics, practical language exercises, and opportunities for participants to speak and interact at their own level.

The sessions focus on real conversation practice while helping participants strengthen vocabulary, pronunciation, and listening skills.

A Mexican appetizer will be served at each gathering, creating a casual and social atmosphere while you learn.

Perfect for beginners looking to practice or intermediate speakers wanting to build confidence in conversation.

WORKSHOP: Printmaking on the Gel Plate with Jennifer Love We are delighted to welcome Jennifer Love back to qathet! Originally from Ottawa, Jennifer lived in Australia for 16 years before returning to Canada’s West Coast, where she now resides in Gibsons, BC. This 2-day workshop is for those who already understand the basics – we will move beyond the fundamentals of gelprinting to resist/transfer printing using magazine pages, patterned wrapping paper, and laser prints of your own drawings or photographs. Combining multiple techniques and layers in a single-pull print. Exploring possibilities for adding extra colour before and after lifting the print, including reverse painting with acrylics, markers or Pan Pastels. We will push the boundaries of everyday gelprinting by working with charcoal transfers, sprayed water, or modifying your laser print by sanding….the possibilities are endless. https://www.qa-w.ca/workshops

WORKSHOP: Intro to Gel Printing With Jennifer Love We are delighted to welcome Jennifer Love back to qathet! Originally from Ottawa, Jennifer lived in Australia for 16 years before returning to Canada’s West Coast, where she now resides in Gibsons, BC. Printing with a gel plate often feels like it is in the realm of magic. It is a recent addition to the artist’s toolkit and is gaining traction as an essentially painterly method that allows for multiple yet unique prints from the same plate, without a press. This three hour workshop is suitable for those new to Gelprinting as well as those who wish to refresh their basic skills in an atmosphere of exploration and discovery. We will cover the fundamentals – colour blending and gradations, creating textures, using masks and stencils, the use of different viscosity paints, building a composition and registering multiple layers. https://www.qa-w.ca/workshops

Expressive Florals in oil, with Ursula Medley

This fun 2-day intensive workshop is suitable for the enthusiastic beginner painter as well as those with some previous painting experience. Participants will learn or recall basic oil painting techniques including value, composition, colour mixing and basic colour theory. Day 1, Saturday Oct 11: Get started from the ground up, develop the image using a selection of tools to develop the grisaille underpainting glaze technique. Observe your personal response to the subject.
