Festival of Lights is a warm and welcoming community celebration hosted by AFqa (Association Francophone de qathet), bringing families and neighbours together to share music, light, and seasonal joy. The event combines cultural connection with a festive atmosphere, creating a space where everyone can gather, celebrate, and enjoy the spirit of the season.
Friday, December 12
5:00 p.m. | Opening of the grounds
- Outdoor area: illuminated forest walk with treasure hunt
- Community hall: winter crafts, hot chocolate, drinks, treats, and a festive, friendly atmosphere
- DJ Blaise on site with lively francophone holiday music
6:30 p.m. | Visit from Santa Claus and gift for every child
8:00 p.m. | Closing of the grounds

The Powell River Recreation Complex is celebrating 50 years of community and connection with a full week of events from December 8–13. Enjoy FREE swims, skates, and gym time, holiday crafts for kids, Retro Fitness Day, an ugly sweater skate, Fill the Hamper night, and the legendary JAWS-in-the-pool movie event. Do you know about Artist Trading Cards? Whether you do or don’t, we hope you’ll join us for ATC nights with host Harvey Chometsky.
In short, Artist Trading Cards are self-made unique works or small series, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer, exchanged and collected by the people who participate in this collaborative event. There are only 2 “rules”: the cards must be 2.5″x3.5″ (the same as modern hockey cards or baseball cards), and they are only to be traded, not sold.
Make them ahead of time, or make them on the spot. We’ll bring some blanks and other art supplies.
And this is a family-friendly event!
